Urlacher Brother in Illegal Gambling Indictment

The brother of the legendary NFL Chicago Bears linebacker, Brian Urlacher has been indicted in a federal case, where he was charged, along with nine others, with running an illegal offshore sports betting operation.

Casey Urlacher, who is mayor of the Illinois village of Mettawa, allegedly recruited new bettors to the illegal gambling scheme, which raked in millions of dollars over its years of operation. Feds say that he relied on his famous brother’s repuation to attract players to the platform.

His brother, Brian Urlacher made the Chicago Bears Hall of Fame for his dazzling career on the field. Brian Urlacher told reporters that he was completely unaware of his brother’s alleged particpation in the scheme. The linebacker was not named in the indictment.

An indictment was issued against Casey Urlacher and the nine others by the US District Court’s Northern District of Illnois.  The ten allegedly ran a website which was based offshore. Their ringleader was named as Vincent DelGuidice who paid a Costa Rica-based sportsbook a service fee to use its remote platform.

Another one of those indicted was a veteran Chicago police officer, Nicholas Stella who has spent nearly two decades on the force. Last year, he was stripped of his police powers and demoted to a desk job.

Although not nearly as famous as his brother, Casey Urlacher nevertheless also played football for Lake Forest COllega and the Arena Football League, before he entered politics. In 2013, he became mayor of Mettawa, a village with some 550 residents located some 35 km away from Chicago. In 2015, he made an unsuccessful bid to become a Republican nominee in the 25th State Senate Disctrict.
