PointsBet Inks Deal with Detroit Pistons

With plans to launch its sportsbook in Michigan, operator PointsBet announced the inking of a new partnership deal with the Detroit Pistons.  Michigan is the home state of this NBA franchise.

Under the terms of the deal, PointsBet will become the Pistons’ official sports betting partner. This will allow them access to the team’s official marks and logos. PointsBet will get brand visibility across the team’s digital and social platforms.

The chief executive of PointsBet, Johnny Aitken said: “Michigan is a fantastic sports state, and we look forward to the opportunity to soon serve Michigan sports bettors on a personalised platform with unrivalled speed and ease of use, now alongside both the Pistons and Rip Hamilton.”

Aitken was referring to former Pistons player, Rip Hamilton who is also a 3-time NBA All-Star player.  Hamilton will serve as brand ambassador for the sports betting operator.

Last month, the Michigan Gaming Control Board awarded provisional licenses to 15 sportsbooks, including PointsBet, with the intention of providing online gambling and sports betting services to commercial and tribal casinos.

Other sportsbooks include William Hill, GAN, NYX Digital Gaming, Golden Nugget and FanDuel.

A spokesperson for the Michigan gambling authority said in December that sports betting platform providers still need to meet other regulatory requirements before online gaming and sports betting can launch in Michigan.

An official launch date has not been announced yet.

PointsBet secured a commercial deal with the Detroit Tigers, a Major League Baseball team in July last eyar. The group was the first sportsbook to sign a partnership deal with an MLB franchise.

PointBet is not the Detroit Pistons’ exclusive betting partner, however. The team also signed similar deals with FanDuel and DraftKings recently.
