William Hill Mobile Sports Book Goes Live in DC

William Hill, the UK-based sports book operator, which offers mobile sports betting apps in eight US jurisdictions, announced that it has gone live in an eighth. The group launched the William Hill Sports Book App in Washington DC, after receiving permission to do so by the DC Office of Lottery and Gaming.

Since William Hill’s physical sports book is located in one of DC’s 4 arenas, its sportsbook is only available for use within a two-block radius around Capital One Arena, as per DC gambling laws. The app cannot be used in federal buildings.

William Hill issued a press release this week, informing players about the new mobile app.

According to the press release:

“The William Hill mobile app offers sports fans a betting experience with a broad and deep array of markets and bet types, including Parlay Cards and live InPlay wagering for their favorite teams, all at a tap of a finger. The app also includes a quick and secure registration process and various options to deposit and withdraw funds.”

Players who use Apple or Android devices will be able to dowload the app from today.

In the meantime, William Hill is getting ready to move to its permanent home in Washington DC early next year. The group opened its pop-up sports book at Capital One Arena in July this year, at the height of the pandemic. It is hoping to open what it terms “a cutting-edge, full service sports book and restaurant” in the coming months, providing “a first-of-a-kind sports fan experience inside a professional sports complex.”

The only other sports book in Washington DC, the DC Lottery’s Intralot-powered GamebetDC is lagging behind William Hill in popularity and handle, despite the fact that it can offer citywide sports betting options to residents.

In November 2020, Will Hill’s physical sportsbook took $13.7 million in bets, compared to GambetDC’s handle of just $3.9 million – 3.5 times higher.
